The CBFB gene is located on chromosome 16q22.1. The CBFB Break Apart FISH probe is designed to label both ends of the CBFB gene, respectively. A 460 Kb orange probe is designed at the 3′ end of the CBFB gene, and a 370 Kb green probe is designed at the 5′ end of the CBFB gene.
Used to detect inv(16)(p13;q22), which occurs in 20% of AML M4 patients and less frequently in M2, M5, and M4 (without eosinophilia). Associated with good prognosis.
